The 134th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. B.R. Ambedkar was marked with solemnity and conviction by the City District Congress Committee in Rajnandgaon. Under the leadership of City Congress President Kulbir Singh Chhabra, a special seminar and tribute event was organized at the Congress Bhawan at Jaystambh Chowk, where party members paid floral homage to the visionary leader and reiterated their commitment to protecting the Indian Constitution.
City General Secretary Amit Chandravanashi conducted the seminar, stating that the event was held as per directives from Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress President Deepak Baij. The proceedings began with a garlanding of Dr. Ambedkar’s portrait by key leaders including former Congress President Dinesh Sharma, South Block President Suryakant Jain, and Gopichand Gaikwad, among others.
In his address, City Congress President Kulbir Singh Chhabra passionately remembered Dr. Ambedkar’s immense contribution to Indian society and democracy. He stated, “Dr. Ambedkar sacrificed his entire life for the welfare of the oppressed, women, and laborers. He was not only a social reformer and economist, but a visionary who dreamt of systemic change and made it a reality.”
Chhabra highlighted that Ambedkar’s primary mission was to spread education and enlightenment in society, and he envisioned a nation where every citizen had equal rights and dignity. “The Constitution drafted by Dr. Ambedkar was carefully crafted with attention to economic development, social upliftment, and equality,” he emphasized.
He also expressed concern over attempts to dilute constitutional values under the guise of political power. “Some forces today are working to change the soul of Ambedkar’s Constitution, but Congress and its allies are determined to protect it,” he asserted.
Following the seminar, Congress members paid floral tributes at Ambedkar’s statue at the District Office and later at Baba Ambedkar Mangal Bhavan in Civil Lines, where candles were lit in his memory.
The event saw participation from a large number of senior Congress leaders and workers including Ramesh Dakaliya, Kamaljeet Singh Pintu, former Mayor Sudesh Deshmukh, Hema Deshmukh, Vice President Vikas Tripathi, General Secretary Jhumman Dewangan, Mohini Sinha, Madhubala Srivastava, Rajeev Panchbhave, Mamaraj Agrawal, Manish Sahu, Shailesh Thaware, Mayank Soni, Nilesh Thaware, Abdul Qadir Qureshi, Narayan Soni, JK Ramteke, and Shaurya Vaishnav.
The tribute program concluded with a collective pledge to uphold the values of social justice, equality, and democracy that form the bedrock of India’s Constitution as envisioned by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
