Municipal Elections 2025
BJP’s Madhusudan Breaks His Own Record, Wins by 44475 Votes
- City Congress President Kulbir Chhabda Loses
Raja Makhija, Jainam Baid, and Ranu Jain Emerge Victorious
Rajnandgaon (BTI)– The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured a resounding and historic victory in the Rajnandgaon Municipal Corporation elections. BJP’s mayoral candidate, Madhusudan Yadav, not only won but also surpassed his own previous record. The Congress suffered a severe setback, with its mayoral candidate facing a crushing defeat. In the municipal council elections, Congress struggled to even reach double digits in terms of elected representatives.

In the 2014 direct mayoral elections, Madhusudan Yadav had defeated Congress candidate Vijay Pandey by a margin of 35,241 votes. This time, he outperformed himself, securing a victory with an even larger margin of 44475 votes, defeating Congress’s young candidate, Nikhil Dwivedi.
The municipal elections in Rajnandgaon witnessed BJP winning an overwhelming 39 out of 51 wards. Congress managed to win only 10 seats, while two independent candidates also emerged victorious.
For BJP, the victory in key wards such as Ward No. 24, Ward No. 27, and Ward No. 37 was significant. A major upset occurred in Ward No. 24, where first-time candidate Sanky Bagga defeated five-time incumbent Kulbir Chhabda with a massive margin, sending shockwaves across the city. Sanky Bagga, a former member of the All India Defense Services, had recently joined BJP after transitioning into his family business. His victory was particularly remarkable as he defeated Kulbir Chhabda, the city Congress president, who had been considered invincible.
The election in Ward No. 37 mirrored the intensity of the 2024 Assembly elections, with a similar atmosphere among voters. Despite internal dissent, Jainam Baid secured a strong victory in this ward. In Ward No. 27, BJP’s trade cell coordinator, Raja Makhija, won by an impressive margin of approximately 1,100 votes, making him a topic of discussion across the city.
